REVIEW OF DECIEM’S MOST POPULAR PRODUCTS #SKINCARESUNDAY

Hey Prepsters,

I’m super excited to dive into the super popular Deciem brand. Deciem has had a sharp rise to stardom in recent years with the likes of Kim Kardashian and other youtubers and celebrities showing it major love. But are the products really worth the hype? We will find out! Last month, I stopped by the Deciem location at Square One and asked the associate to select the most popular skincare products from The Ordinary line, as well as the most popular product from their Niod collection.

I want to give a quick shoutout to Brett Houghton for the request to review the line. If you guys have other brand requests for #SkincareSunday review posts, be sure to slide into my DM’s on Instagram @theprepguy.

1 | NIOD Photography Fluid, $30.00 CAD (Featured Image)

This product was definitely the most intriguing for myself, because I spend a lot of time behind the camera for my blog shoots. When I picked it up, I thought it was going to be a subtle substitute for liquid highlighters or strobing gels – but found that instead it was more so of a tone and hue-corrector and bounced light back when shooting. Overall the product did meet its website claims – but I was not a fan of how it sat underneath foundation. I would recommend this product only if you’re the type of person who can do photography with no foundation/make-up on (great for men) or as a general skincare product to look more radiant in your everyday life.

2 | The Ordinary. Vitamin C Suspension 23% + HA Spheres 2%, $5.80 CAD

This is a phenomenal product that can be used for brightening skin while making skin look tighter, firmer and more youthful. The water-free, silicone free formula feels a little bit gritty when applied – and I would only recommend using it in the evening as a bed time routine 1-3 times a week. It also features spheres of hyaluronic acid, which hydrates the skin and creates a visibly smoother base.

3 | Buffet, $14.80 CAD

The “Buffet” Serum from The Ordinary line was hands down my favourite product. I love an all-in-one and this is a beautiful marriage of everything you need in an anti aging serum. Your skin visibly looks and feels smoother, plumper, it reduces the signs of wrinkles (mildly). The formula contains water and oil, which is personally my preferences. I’m not a fan of silicone based products as they clog pores.

4 | Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, $6.80 CAD

The Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 formula is a great affordable find! Hyaluronic Acid as I mentioned before is great for hydrating your skin and according to Deciem’s site can attract 1000 X its weight in water. I personally did feel that my skin looked more hydrated and beautiful! I would recommend using this as the first product after cleansing your face and to only use it either in the day time or evening – daily.

5 | Lactic Acid 5% + HA, $6.50 CAD

This is a product I would only recommend if you *do not have sensitive, damaged, or compromised* skin. Lactic Acid is essentially a tool for exfoliating the skin. I would recommend only using this in evening time – and when using this product, to wear tons of sunscreen and limit any sun exposure while using this and for a week after. I found it worked best when I diluted it with other moisturizers so it wasn’t as strong. I would highly recommend only using this product if you have consulted with a dermatologist – but overall it is very effective.

6 | Natural Moisturizing Factors, $5.80 CAD

Now one of my favourite moisturizers of all time, this product contains tons of beneficial acids. It’s non-greasy and you feel hydrated for hours to come – which is rare in the dead of winter. I would highly recommend this product and for a breakdown on all of the different acid’s I would recommend clicking on the title and taking yourself to the Deciem site.

Final Thoughts

I’m thoroughly impressed with Deciem and I can definitely found myself going to their store to explore more products. This is probably the most impressed I will ever be by an affordable skincare brand. I would recommend visiting a local store and building out a skincare routine to best fit your skins needs.
